Wife is eligible for half of husband's S.S. benefits

Dear Harry: My mother worked under Social Security for a few years between high school and marriage, so she would have almost no benefits on her own. She then worked only in the home. I'm sure you can appreciate that, in view of the fact that she had five kids. My father will be 66 later this year, but he does not intend to retire for another five or six years. He loves his job, and his bosses love him. Someone told him that my mother can get half of his Social Security benefits once he hits 66 even if he's still working. The guy wanted $500 to tell him how this can be done. Is there something shady here, ...
