The modern world was created by those who haunted the Austrian capital in the first 14 years of the 20th century. The writer returns to the place that gave rise to his latest novel, Waiting for SunriseIt took me about half an hour to walk from the centre of Vienna – from the opera house – to the Freud Museum on Berggasse. It's pretty much a straight line: up Augustinerstrasse, along Herrengasse, past the stables of the Spanish Riding School, then straight across Michaelerplatz and on along the street past the Café Centrale and then across the wide avenue of the Ring by the university.
