Women’s Rights Group Outraged Over Abortion Amendment

A women’s rights advocacy group urged the president earlier this week not to sign an amendment to the health care reform bill that would restrict abortion funding."We had the most pro-choice candidate in decades, but we don't have the most pro-choice president," said Terry O'Neill, president of the half-million-strong National Organization of Women (NOW).The group is outraged over the Stupak-Pitts amendment to the government’s sweeping healthcare bill that would restrict access and funding to abortion.O’Neill called the amendment “a giant leap in the direction of making abortion completely inaccessible to all of us."Sixty-four Democrats and 176 Republicans voted to approve the amendment."They said they wouldn't have been able to get health care reform passed without this amendment," said O'Neill."And they ...
